I would've given an 7.5, but anyways. Great acting, great special effects, but the only thing I didn't like and I'm glad they corrected it was the 'occult-science-twist' the movie takes near the end. There is place for improvement, but overall a pretty good movie.

The incompetent people who produce these flicks are not capable of thinking and use all the special effects garbage to try and compensate for it...

Robert Downey Jr MAKES this movie. If he were not in it, I would have rated much less than 6. The film isn't badly made but the story line just didn't do it for me.

This is the best movie I have ever seen. It is sooo good, and though it keeps up the serious plot and theme, it does a wonderful job of adding comedy that is ACTUALLY funny. I love it soo much.

A movie with an excellent cast, fast-paced and rich with detail. I'm definitely going to watch the DVD with subtitles so that I can catch all the little details I missed...

You'll be angry or disappointed if you go expecting to see the classic Sir Arthur type of Sherlock Holmes. It strayed much from the character of Holmes, but if you get past that, it was excellent! Good actors, good script, good cinematography.

I was really disappointed by this movie. I expected a police inspector movie but it was much more like an action movie or a sort of super-hero movie with many clichés.

I was pleasantly surprised by this movie. I had no intention of seeing this movie. But Guy Ritchie has crafted a very clever tale and has reinvented Sherlock Holmes. The chemistry between Downey Jr and Law is fantastic, the humour in the writing is witty, and the movie packs a lot of thrills. 7/10, a good entertaining movie, worth seeing on the big screen.

In case ya didn't know, Guy Ritchie is more than a bang bang shoot'emup-mate film director. Mr. Ritchie shows it with this latest installment in the lengthy Sherlock Holmes film history that he has inserted a winner. There are times during this movie that you can smell the sewers of London and the freshly baked Mrs. Miggins' meat pies. Downey Jr. & Judd do their part in making you believe you are there watching it with Conan Doyle. This film's screenwriting by a trio of scribes (Michael Robt. Johnson, Anthony Peckham & Simon Kinberg) is never trite. Hans Zimmer is at his best musically and the costumes by Jenny Beavan are whimsical, mad, humourous but never stupid. This is rated an eight by yours truly - "a really great movie that you shouldn't miss". If I had one slight negative it would be that the film was (at 2hr & 19 min.) perhaps 20 minutes too long. But all in all - I am pondering that this may be my favourite Holmes and Watson flick since the one whose title escapes me - the one with Christopher Plummer. DJZigZag.

I really enjoyed this one. Love Guy Ritchies work and the tell tale signature scenes: Slash fast whip smart cut stop freeze with witty narration... and Robert Downey Jr is on a roll! Nice character, costume, set - altogether a really good movie.

I must say that I really enjoyed this movie. As a fan of the books, I think that RDJ's portrayal of Holmes and Jude Law's portrayal of Watson were great (although a little too violent for my tastes) I loved the soundtrack and the dialogue, and especially the interaction between Holmes and Watson. The only reason I didn't give this a 9 or a 10 is because a) I didn't quite find Rachel McAdams' performance as stellar as the others, and b) there was too much violence for it to be a truly faithful adaptation of ACD's Sherlock. However, I think Guy Madden did a great job with Holmes, even constrained by what Hollywood expects from its movies.

Poor sir Arthur... At least producers should have changed the name of the main character... Herlock Sholmes or whatever... poorly made parody on one of the greatest personages in classical detective fiction...

I really enjoyed how it was filmed. I liked the forethought and then how it played out. But in the end I found that a film about the world's greater detective wasn't about solving a mystery but more about changing Sherlock Holmes into a Victorian Crime Fighter. I left the theatre thinking that I enjoyed it but wouldn't really remember anything about it in a couple of weeks.

An innovative approach to Holmes character, unsuccessful at my opinion. Holmes is shown as an addicted alcoholic, drug abuser etc, always rescued by Dr. Watson... A total flip.

Oh Guy Pierce, why did not divorce we-all-know-who sooner? Fantastic story, marvelous actor, a joy to watch! My only drawback from giving it a 10? Rachel McAdams. Sorry, but she brought nothing to the movie. Could have cast anyone in this role to do the job she did. Choosing an actress like Rachel Weisz (if you absolutly want a Rachel) would have brought a whole other dimension to the character. My opinion of course. And since I am not a casting agent... oh well.

Nothing spectacular. I'm gona forget about this movie within a week of seeing it. Lots of holes in the plot. Didn't feel like Sherlock Holmes at all. He goes out on a limb to deduce the most complicated scenarios from the most insignificant details, but half the time you're like: oh come on! There's no way anyone couldve figured that out. It's like he already knew all the answers before accepting the case. Anyway, apart from Rachel McAdams it was pretty lame.
