Definitely worth seeing, a very inspirational movie, superb acting by Morgan and Matt,... a little taste of history that goes a long way.

Was one of my top 10 movies of 2009. Morgan Freeman's performance was terrific and deserved an Oscar, IMO.

To sum it all up - beautiful. I didn't expect to like it as much as I did. I guess I expected it to be a little bit more about rugby (which I know nothing about) and it wasn't. The acting was great - Matt Damon did a superb job in his role. Morgan Freeman plays a mean Mandela, especially with those rolling of the 'r's' Very inspirational and definitely a must see.

I like all the Clint Eastwood movie, he is good actor and one of the best directer. Morgan Freeman has touched me again in the movie. It is a little slow and probably just plain, but it is real.

Freemans acting enjoyable. Movie lacks emotion, it drags on. Where's the DEPTH!!! I wanted to feel the emotions from seeing Mandela prison life. I wanted to see the buildup of seeing the rugby team win. Blame it on the director here IMHO.

The movie is OK but don't expect it to revolve around Nelson Mandela's life. It centres around an international rugby match in South Africa. Interesting, but not quite what I expected.

This movie is really not worth reviewing other than to counter the overly positive reviews it has received. The main actors do a professional job but the script and direction are of comic book standard. Morgan Freeman provides an excellent imitation of Mandela but the script provides no opportunity for the character to be interpreted beyond 2 dimensions. There is an inherent problem dramatizing such recent and ongoing history. History will view Mandela and his civilizing of SA positively. Contrast his cooperative approach to avoid civil war with the belligerancy of Bush et al. Eastwood had the opportunity to make this contrast clear. Instead he uses the unique example of the relatively peaceful introduction of democracy in SA to score dollars and kudos by nominating Mandela for sainthood because of a rugby miracle! At the same time Clint continues to make movies glorifying Mr. Bush, US armies and gun violence. Who are you, Clint? A man of peace or a man of war? Clint Eastwood can make fine movies but mostly the hero is left standing, not from an excess of negotiation and cooperation with the bad guys, but from having bigger guns and more bullets. So, in this hypocritical Eastwood movie, Clint damns Mandela with very faint praise. Moving on to today in SA. The international preemptive policies of the US have hardly encouraged the post Mandela leadership to follow Mandela's lead. The country has enjoyed little practrical support from the US. What a missed opportunity Mr. Eastwood, to educate US audiences about current affairs in SA. I suspect you might have considered Charlton Heston for the Mandela role had he been avaialble.

Clint Eastwood does it again, directing another solid drama. But more than the story and theme, I was taken aback by Morgan Freeman's spot on portrayal of Nelson Mandela! He definitely earned his Oscar nomination. And kudos to Matt Damon for his turn as the captain of the South African rugby team. It is a very nice story of foregiveness and looking forward instead of backward, but the movie does seem to drag at times and often seems unnecessarily repetitive on certain themes. I just think that it could have really benefited from a 30 minute reduction in running time, for appreciation sake and interest flow. 7/10, good movie, worth seeing, especially if you love biopics and the retelling of key modern day historic events.

I really loved this movie... but the pace was too slow and much of the dialogue/monologue difficult to understand. Some of the drawn out rugby scenes were boring. I wanted more of the human side... more character development would have been nice.

Ok so I'm a sap. Sue me. But this is a fantastic film, showing a lot more humanity then those too frequent sob-stories you see in theatre nowadays. Please if you have not seen it yet. Spend the money. It is worth it. For the acting, for the rugby, for the history. And no, not the "story" because this, everyone, is real. This is history.

A weak plot, confusing rugby scenes with no explanation of the game and poorly done shots, awful editing, paper thin characters, and obnoxious music make Invictus a huge disappointment. From a technical standpoint it's sort of a disaster- the film is way overlong, the story is extremely uninteresting and has no conflict, the cinematography is bad, leaving the viewer confused as to what's going on, and the score is one of the worst in a long time. Nothing happens for about half the movie, and the second half is rugby. Matt Damon does the best with what he has, but he has so little to do he barely makes an impression on you. He's been getting awards recognition for bulking up and playing rugby? Wow. Morgan Freeman is quite good but as Mandela is a poorly written character you can only really admire his adopted look and mannerisms. It's possibly the most boring character he's ever played, and it's really a shame. The race relations aspect is way overdone, knocking you over the head with cheesy lyrics, blatant comparisons between whites and blacks, etc.

Morgan Freeman is awesome in this. He is powerful on the screen with his presence and rotund voice. Also, you almost have to do a double-take to see the striking resemblance to Nelson Mandela. The point is that even with this grand gesture of rugby, the country is far worse off today than in many years.

I'm an older f/m and I give this 10/10! To me, this film isn't about rugby, but about leadership and forgiveness. What an inspirational movie! I want to see it again! I thought a rugby ball was round. I knew nothing about Mandela, S. Africa, etc. This film opened my eyes.

Visually superb, Morgan Freeman is great as always. The only beef I have is that the movie takes a turn after the first hour and is 100% rugby from then on. You know what the outcome will be.

Clint Eastwood doesn’t make bad movies. Better than last years Changelling and Gran Torino, but it has a few too many flaws to be in the same league as Million dollar baby. By flaws I mean that the movie played out like Mighty Ducks for Adults, and perhaps that is what kept it from getting a 10/10. It benefits from some very powerful lines, an inspirational script and Clint’s directing captures the grit and ruggedness that is rugby.

I love Clint Eatwood as a director. I love Morgan Freeman as an actor. The two work well together but this movie falls flat for me even with all its grandiose epic style scenes and great soundtrack. Matt Damon is practically unaudible with his accent and the message of forgive and forget get lost in the shuffle. Unlike Million dollar Baby where we get the "this is not a sports movie" motto, this one feels like a sports movie and in the end, is a sports movie and not about racial tension.

Go ahead Clint, waste my day. One long, boring, manipulative cliche. Morgan Freeman shuffles around flashing his new dentures and dropping pearls of wisdom to a cast which seems to be in dire need of more fiber in their diet and who's idea of acting seems to be to always stare directly at the camera while never sitting down. Even the rugby sequences were boring. It should be called Inflictus. I did manage to have a 40 minute nap though so it wasn't all bad.

Nelson Mandela is portrayed as an example of wisdom and forgiveness that we would all do well to emulate - a very rare species in the political arena. Invictus provides an uplifting and much-needed insight into his life.

Unfortunately I don't know a lick about Rugby, so the action on the field made little sense to me, however, it really didn't take too much away from the movie. A great performance by Morgan Freeman and Matt Damon. It took a while to catch onto the accents (whether realistic or not, I'll let the people from SA make that comment), it was a good movie and glad I saw it.

Well, I am a big fan of Nelson Mandela. And this movie could have been more deep and more complete than this I believe because of the Greatness of the person but overall, this is really a good movie to watch. Really inspiring and there are a lot of lessons to learn from this character and the history of South Africa. I would have love to see dates and names of locations in the movie because if u really don't know anything about South Africa, you might not learn that much more while your watching the movie.

I expected more out of this movie. It was exactly what I thought it would be without anything standing out for me. Yes it was good. Acted out well by Morgan and Matt. The cast was great, storyline is what it is as we all know. I wish it was told in a more involving fashion. I felt like, as a viewer, I wasn't as intrigued as I thought I should be. Altogether ok but wait for DVD, nothing to go out to get a ticket for if you ask me.
