A great piece of work, inspiring story about a blacksmith who had no faith in himself, then inspired 200 soldiers to fight.

I loved watching this movie at the theatre. It's a must see even if there is some improvment that they could do in some corners. But what can we do. The action is very good, especially when there is the big attack. Good cinema!!

I enjoyed it but I found it a little slow and confusing but that may be because I had to keep explaining characters and plots to my husband. I must say that I thought it would be better than it was.

Great action movie. Battle scenes were intense and special effects rivaled Lord of the Rings. Minor glitch in one scene where rope for extras to line up was in the shot, but otherwise believable.

Some of the few movies that are are based on historical fact and can add a completey fictional character and events and still stay true to the historical events plot, coupled with a great cast makes this a masterpeice of fact and fiction, rivaling such as Gladiator and Braveheart.

Better than Troy, but weaker than Braveheart or Gladiator. The music, scenery, costumes and sets were well done, but the story was not rich enough for the great cast assembled. It could have been excellent instead of just good.

A great movie, dont miss it. Orlando is a good actor in it, and is still ridiculously hott. Good action scenes and battle fights. The only con is the blood is a bit... too much that it seems fake. But still good movie. Cover your kids eyes when there are really gross parts, justa tip. P. S. The guy in the metal face mask freaks me out ( is he talking or not? )

A good movie if you like epic films but could have been much much better. Cutting a film from 3 hours 40 minutes to 2 hours 22 minutes is going to exact a price and the price is that many had difficulty following the film. So much dialogue that would have made us understand the background and context must have been cut.

Ugh, my friends and I were really looking forward to seeing this movie. I love this stuff but this movie was extremely disapointing. Very very long and very boring. You could leave for ten min and not miss anything. I can't figure out why people are giving this thing good ratings.

If you look past the hollywood label you'll see a theme of humanity and coexistence. Muslims, Jews, and Christians all living as equals within Jerusalem. The movie is not extremely profound, but it's attempt is greatly sincere. With only a couple of hours it is impossible to explain centuries of turmoil. Go see the movie!

The set design, costume and cinematography was well done. However, I felt unmoved during the entire film, completely indifferent to any character or to the plot which was rather thin. Unfortunately, the movie was bogged down with clichés, which kind of ruined it for me.

I like the first actor's character. He shows his soldires how to be brave and condfident and don't be afraid of the power of enemy. He believes that people of all religions can live peacefully together. He has a new definition of God and religion. His ideas look interesting. He also shows how a nobel man refuses to use any possible way to achieve his goals. He wants many things, most importantly a woman he loves, but he wants to get them from right ways. And finally he does.

I liked the movie a lot. The props and scenery were very well done, and followed the era of the Crusaders. Orlando Bloom's character was my favorite character, as he started off as a lowly blacksmith and ended up a powerful knight. He obeyed his father's dying words, which made him a knight with integrity. The war scenes were very well done, especially the battle against the Muslims. But my favorite scene was where he recruited the peasants and made them all knights before the battle with the Muslims. The negative aspect? Actress Eva Green (Princess Sibylla) was a bit of a disappoinment. The only thing I'd advise to parents with children (12 and under at least) - this movie is very bloody and violent - not a movie for the family.

Great movie, excellent acting. As for some comments regarding anti Christian propaganda please disregard them (how are we suppose to represent crusades which had for the only purpose to get to the wholly city and kill all non-believers) This movie is captivating form the beginning till the end, and you can almost feel and taste dark and awful middle ages where human life did not count for more then few gold coins (if that) If you are deeply religious and think that the Christianity only did amazing and beautiful things and that the crusades and the inquisition are historical inaccuracies then this movie is not for you (otherwise go and enjoy the ride) By the way I am a Christian and still loved the movie!

I enjoyed this movie. I really was interested in it visually and found Edward Norton's character captivating. He was a leper king who was yet firm and just. He was humble and did not abuse his power. There are couple more interesting characters in this movie. It wasn't a Braveheart or huge epic, but it was worth seeing. As for it's historical accuracy and religous message... yuk. It'll leave a bad taste in your mouth if that's important to you. I just loved it visually and dramatically. I felt like I could say that I have some idea of what an army of the crusade would have looked like. To me makes it worth it.

I am a History major and have to say something... this film ignores the Jewish role in this experience and neglects to mention the animosity that Christians and Muslims had against one another. For those of you who think that Christians/Muslims lived together in bliss you have to look at the frontier between the Byzantine Empire and the Turks (today it is known as the Balkans) This area was set aside as a warlike frontier and that is why it is a source of continuous struggle today. While Muslims were superior to Christians tech-wise for a few centuries this information was taken from the Christian Roman Empire as it fell; Muslims preserved it. The Crusades were a reaction against Muslim expansion which, in turn, was a reaction against Roman Christendom which, in turn, was a reaction against disorderly paganism. Don't assume that the Crusaders were the only bad guys here and Muslims were the sole victims. One needs only to learn about Saladin to understand the threat that Islamic ideology had on the culture of Europe; albeit, neither group was perfect. Everybody has blood on their hands and I'm tired of movies that try to show reality without giving credit to the circumstances at the time. I would have joined the Crusades if I was a Christian. Just like I would have reacted against the Crusades if I was a Muslim. We are people; that's all that matters. And nothing is worth spilling blood over.

Very disappointing - characters uni-dimensional, very simple plot - boring. Really didn't hang together. Especially the role of the sole female character. Expected more from this director and cast. Learned little about the history. Sets and battle scenes were good..

Islamic Propoganda at its best. A few years ago Malaysia and Iranian Prime Ministers signed an agreement to do a movie about Saladin. It shocked and facinated me that the two countries were so interested in funding movies, till I saw this Anti Christian propoganda. If Christians were to do the same and do a movie about the pre Crusade Islamic forced conversion slaughter of Africa, Armenia, Middle East and half of Europe, many theatres would be no more standing. I read this in the Star, the Malaysian national newspaper, and if I am wrong and they come out with some nice historical movie about Saladin, I will be even more surprised. I think I have figured out this film, and I hope others do as well.

I guess with Ridley Scott attached to this film I was expecting more. Yes the battle scenes were entertaining but I found the plot to be rather blah. I was expecting a different (or better) picture then what was delivered (possibly due to misleading advertising) Did not find Orlando believable in the lead and the film just didn't work for me. Overall - disapointed.

This movie was a great example of how the Muslims and Christains once lived in peace and harmony. There was never a need for war and bloodshed, and they both were allowed to worship thier God in peace. The historical aspects of this movie showed the unnecessary war that was created over the greed that is caused amongst humanity, and to this day, many lives are being lost for the mere purpose of wanting control and power. It is nice to see a film on the big screen showing the purity of religion, and ones judgement and actions are not always based on factual evidence. I think it is great the the Muslims and Christains were shown to be living in harmony, and hope that one day peace will go back to Jerusalam and the other countries that fell victims to undignifed wars. This movie is a must see!!

Although historically inaccurate, the characters and plot were pretty well developed. It is always amusing when Hollywood attempts to comment on the current political climate - although this is a movie based on the Crusades, its message is not at all religious, rather it aims to teach us to look beyond religion and culture and see the humanity, the good and the bad, in all people. While this is a message that we should all take to heart, we should not take walk away from this movie feeling we learned anything about history itself. Although it was nice to see Muslims humanized, this movie does not go nearly far enough to show the degree of cultural and intellectual superiority of Muslim communities during this era. And what of the third major religion of this region? The Jewish presence was completely ignored - if Hollywood wished to make an accurate political statement it should have extended its message to all of the Western religions rather than selectively criticizing and romanticizing two of them. This is a great movie; certainly well acted, with great settings and scenary, but it is no intellectual masterpiece.

Awesome movie. The writers did an great job of showing both sides and being even handed, even if did show the crusaders having a small victory that did not actually take place. What I really liked about the movie was how it showed the Mercy, Respect and Tolerence that the Muslims had for other religions. It did not use the inaccurate common stereotype of showing Muslims having no respect of Christianity and Judaism.

A complex, thought-provoking and ultimately satisfying movie, probably the first to show Muslims are regular people and not savages. It is still a Euro-centric film though (note the blacksmith teaching the locals how to build irrigation system, as if those daft locals did not know how to?! ) but at least it dared to show the true history about the crusaders who butchered everyone when they captured Jerusalem and Saladdin was magnanimous and allowed all religions to coexist when he ruled Jerusalem. Finally the film shows how dangerous extremism, on whatever side, is and how religion is used as an excuse to fight for land and wealth. Ridley Scott is a master filmmaker and he does not disappoint. Orlando Bloom is bland but the supporting cast led by Jeremy Irons and Ed Norton were superb. The actor who played Saladdin was also very good.

Okay well to beging... the people who say that the movie has nothing to do with history are wrong in a way. First of, they never said the movie will be typically the same as the real thing and 2. The 3/4 is true. I found it really nice. It was a little bit slow in the begining I do have to admit that but then it gets really interesting and everything keeps on getting better. The actors were great, the costumes and everything else that goes along with it. So yeah I have it a 9.

I heard Ridley just decided to do a movie about the crusades because his muse, Russell Crowe, was too busy to make the movie he actually wanted to make. It shows. This movie relies heavily on over-rated and over-used CGI effects, a LOTR style, a powerful supporting cast, and a flavour of the month star (who despite playing fairly diverse characters, comes off as the same guy in EVERY film he is in *you're ever-changing wardrobe and hairstyles don't fool me Bloom! ) The only 2 characters I cared at all about were Neeson's, killed early, and the King, [...]. It fails at its message of morality, is way too choppy, and utilises the most foul of cheese to inspire the mindless drones that file year after year to see Titanics, Bravehearts, Troys, Giglis, and whatever other hype rears its ugly head in theatres. Ridley Scott is rich. He should have waited to work on a project he really cared about with a star that can both act and inspire. Can you imagine Bloom as Maximus? I think I just threw up a little...

Beautiful Movie Not a "Braveheart", not a "Gladiator", but still a great film because it's definitely screaming to us to think about the current state of Jerusalem and the Middle East. This is definitely not a cheap action film, if that's what you're looking for. And yes, it was nice to finally see a film that does not make Arabs and Muslims look like terrible people [...]; if we are all children of God, then doesn't that make us all brothers and sisters under that same Creator?

The Holy Wars. This is what is wrong with the concept of religion. Especially Christianity. I mean, they did invade another land slaughtering as many people as possible, what do you expect the locals to do? Never mind The Passion of the Christ, this is the movie Christians should be flocking to see. The sadism is actually toned down a lot for the movie over true history. Great cinematography, especially the epic battles.
