    21 Years: Richard Linklater

Well this is one delightful documentary on a film maker everyone now knows because of his stunning work in creating Boyhood. Linklater started off slowly but oh so surely. For cinéphiles, myself included, he has had great respect for years. Most didn't know who he was till literally thrust into the limelight with BOYHOOD for which he won 2 Golden Globe Awards for producing and directing Boyhood. He was awarded several other prizes for the film and it looked he was going to take home Oscar when the tide suddenly changed with 2 events. The Producers Guild picked BIRDMAN as best film and the Directors Guild gave Best Director to Innaritu (spelling? )for Birdman.

Richard Linklater may seem a laid back, quiet sort of guy in comparison to several pretty bombastic directors, but don't let his mild, good mannered charm lull you into thinking he's a pussy cat. He's very astute; he knows what he wants and it has all been working for him for over two decades. It's wonderful to hear his praises and kudos from the many stars he has worked with from Matt to Ethan, Julie and a whole slew of them who obviously love him to death.

It's tough to lose the Oscar when literally inches away from it. However, disappointed Richard Linklater may be, he will bounce right back as he's a smart, go-getter always in search of a good project with innovative ideas that have become a sort of trademark for him. Let's face it, he accomplished with ONE film what many directors can only dream of. His amazing BOYHOOD will stand the test of time for many, many reasons, but they can all be boiled down to the fact that it is a masterpiece of American film making. Name another director who has accomplished anything as GRANDIOSE as Boyhood, a work in progress for some thirteen years!!! Bravo! Richard.
