In the tradition of such snowbound creature-features as "The Thing" and... well, another Carpenter feature," Vampires", comes "30 Days of Night", a vampire romp that unfortunately tumbles from intriguing and tense into just plain mediocre. It's got a solid concept, nasty vamps and a fun cast but the pacing is off and it feels as though it lacks unity of effect. Scenes that'll have you teetering on the edge of your seat are bookended by the characters sitting around and... well, being cold and bored. Or scared, I couldn't tell. Still, it's passable. It certainly helps that Danny Huston really got into his role as the head bad guy. Hartnett's alright but he doesn't have much to work with and the movie takes a majorly goofy turn in its climax. But yeah, fun here and there.
