A Million Ways to Die in the West

There are quite a few negative reviews being written about this movie, and while I can understand where they are coming from, I had fun, and quite enjoyed this movie. It did have some problems, granted, however I saw A Million Ways to Die in the West with a group of friends and we were all laughing along with the other people in the audience. The movie starts out quite well, and for the first forty-five minutes was very consistent in its ability to be funny. After that however, the movie started to abandon the humor aspect, and tried to go for a bit of character and story development. While it doesn't bother me when comedies do this, I want there to still be funny moments along the way. This movie tries to add story, then humor, then story etc. in separate scenes instead of having the story/character development and humor together. This added to the run time, which was another problem I had. The movie could have cut out a good twenty five minutes, without losing anything. Instead it keeps going, making for a movie that feels longer than it really is. The acting was good overall, with Neil Patrick Harris being one my favourite parts. A lot of the other supporting actors felt a little underutilized, with the story focusing more on Seth MacFarlane's character. Despite these problems, A Million Ways to Die in the West did what a comedy is supposed to do, and that's to make the audience laugh. It is very funny, be it a bit juvenile at times. This reminds me of why I like seeing comedies in the theater, and that's to be with a bunch of people all laughing together.
