This is a pretty good movie, but not as good as I hoped. It could almost be another of Neeson's 'Taken' movies... the character backgrounds are different, but the plotting is similar... kidnapped innocents menaced by really evil guys, Liam Neeson coming in and taking charge, some tough talk on the phone and some gritty action scenes to wrap things up. However... the movie has great atmosphere and character roles (although Dan Stevens is disappointingly one-note) It moves rather slowly... I found it engrossing, but my wife found it boring and predictable. If you haven't seen the Taken movies... or you just can't get enough of Liam Neeson in action/detective roles, this one is worth your money. If they want to turn Matthew Scudder into a franchise hero, I think they'll have to turn up the excitement a little... I remember now why I never got into the novels: Matt Scudder is a very depressing character. Warning for some pretty graphic violence and disturbing content...
