Even though a Movie Clock score of 9 = "must see", I really need to qualify that. This is a magnificent movie, visually stunning, emotionally draining, deeply symbolic with an ending that will leave you gasping and quite possibly in tears. BUT... it is absolutely not for everyone. There is no dialog at all with the exception of an opening piece and a mayday call. There is very little soundtrack too. Perhaps those in my group were able to become completely absorbed in this movie because we are fans of silent film and are quite comfortable following a story through the actor's facial expressions and body language. Throughout the movie (the time went by incredibly quickly for me) I felt as if I were riding the waves physically and emotionally. Robert Redford was the perfect actor for this demanding role. He completely looked the part of a weathered older guy of means who enjoys the serious side of sailing. Back to The End - the last sequence will certainly have you debating its meaning with no clear "right" answer. For myself, I am very glad that I invested the time and emotion to see this amazing film.
