I spent a while avoiding this film. Ultimately time, place and frame of mind intersected.
Clint Eastwood has made some fine films, I've liked many of them. Don't know why, but many telegraph exactly where they are going to me, pretty early in the going. Creates a lack of dynamic grip.
Bradley Cooper is everywhere these days, and credibly so, man can act. I thought his choice here correct enough, if uninspired. He does a good job, working in the emotive scope of the character. Whose conflicts professionally are devoid of grey areas.
Sienna Miller though, a blonde, British, model-esque it girl, is just ripping here. Great range, and grip on the roller coaster of feeling her character lives. Fine performance.
I did hear much about how "boo-rah" this film was at the expense of empathy to the enemies plight. Too right, it is tried, but over simplistic.
Eastwood's work is always well crafted, the film looks, and sound right, it's un-muddled.
The supporting cast are well chosen, the Iraqi theatre portrayal does tread on the darkness out of the ordinary.
For those intimately involved, I think "American Sniper" works as catharsis, and honour. Personally, I found "feet of clay' in it.
