There have been so many adaptations of Anna Karenina for both the big and small screen starring the greatest stars of their era. One cannot overlook Greta Garbo and in the 1940's Vivien Leigh as the doomed heroine. Their work was very good as were the films, but neither were recognized for any award such as the Oscar. I think this will change when Keira Knightly gets nominated for this role. She is perfect for the role both physically and in every other way as were Miss Garbo and Miss Leigh. Everyone, I would think, knows the story of the tragic Karenina so a truly great film had to emerge to capture the public's eye one more time. The film is opulent and amzingly accurate as an adaptation from a very long novel. The performances are uniformly good. The film will fill your eyes with what was once the magic of Russian Aristocracy in an age now long, long gone. Good to see Jude Law in a true star vehicle again. If it has anything going against it I would say the familiarity of the piece and a younger audience's bewilderment that that's the way things were back then. It won't hit home with the teen crowd.
