Argo is the 3rd directorial feature from Ben Affleck and is a film that should solidify his reputation as a serious, mature and talented film maker. Telling the harrowing true story of the American diplomats held hostage in Iran and the CIA agent who's tasked with getting them out, Argo works as a character drama, a spy thriller and even a comedy. Affleck's film is one of intense realism and despite the fact that audiences will know how the story turns out, the film remains suspenseful, with perhaps the most heart-pounding, sweat inducing airport scene since Midnight Express. A real achievement for writer-director Affleck. A measured and engaging piece of Hollywood storytelling, one that takes a few dramatic liberties with the facts but remains gripping nonetheless.
