Saw this at Fantasia 2015. Holy hell, was it a pleasure. It's rare that I see a movie that makes me feel so many emotions at once. I'd find my brain going full spectrum from "Ohmygod this film is SO terrible but hilarious" to "Actually... this is super disturbing... like, Dante-esque imagery man!!!". It's nutso. As if Fritz Lang and George Romero directed a 1950's giant monster movie. I can't recommend it enough. Whatever you do though, if you're a die-hard fan of the anime, don't go into this with expectations of the show's plot being honored. Hell, the show itself, for all its awesome world-building, is pretty shallow when it comes to characterization. At least the ones in this movie are hilariously larger-than-life. See it with friends, laugh and scream at the screen.
