I simply hated this movie. Having never seen August, Osage County as a play, I can't really compare, but I presume that most of the dialogue is consistent with the original screenplay. That said, the entire script was just bad: a horrible mother, her horrible sister, a father who commits suicide, three screwed up sisters, cousins sleeping with cousins, a pathetic son, an obnoxious boyfriend, an Indian housekeeper. How this could ever have amounted to a hit play is beyond me. Who wrote this crap! And then there was the acting; so overlydramatic it was hard to take seriously. I just can't imagine why Meryl Streep is nominated for an Oscar. Frankly, I couldn't tell when she was high and when she was off drugs. Her performance was the same no matter what: simply obnoxious and annoying. Sam Sheppard was the only character who wasn't offensive; but then he only lasted one scene. Overall, one of the worst movies that I have seen in the last year.
