Big Fish is a delightful fantasy picture about story telling and family relationships - in particular between father and son. Director Tim Burton seems to be maturing has a filmmaker, as this film - despite being about tall tales - seems more grounded in reality then his previous films. I thought Albert Finney gave an excellent performance, he was very believable as a father and master storyteller. Ewan McGregor was also brilliant in his performance as the hero of the tall tales - you just have to like the guy. My one small critique of the film is that it was not very accurate in its depiction of race relations in Alabama in the first half of the twentieth century. A white woman would not have her child delivered by a black male doctor even if she wanted it, nor would a black child be part of a playgroup of white children - not in Alabama. I wonder why Hollywood likes to revise the history of American race relations whenever it can? Make the details historically accurate and you make a more believable picture in my opinion.
