Even though Michael Keaton delivers a very strong performance, this movie just didn't work for me. I didn't hate it, but I certainly didn't leave the theatre feeling overly entertained. There is great tension at times (will he jump, won't he jump), but for much of the time it simply drags along uneventfully. I know that the movie was more about achieving great success or failure in life, but maybe you have to be a New Yorker with interest in the behind-the-scenes struggles of making a Broadway play to really enjoy this one. On a lesser note, the constant drumming in the soundtrack, undoubtedly intended to increase the tension and artistic flair of the movie, just didn't work for me. To be honest, I'm not sure why this movie is mentioned as a serious Oscar contender.
