Dumb and Dumber To

When you buy a ticket for a film called "Dumb and Dumber To", you know what you're in for; a simplistic plot that is nothing more than a vehicle for cheap gags that, if you fit the right demographic, will have you laughing non-stop for a good two hours. However, if you fall into the category of people who do not find vulgar, potty humor funny, then you can skip this movie altogether. I myself lean towards the former. I liked (but didn't love) the first Dumb and Dumber, and was hoping that this movie would provide more of less the same thing; dumb laughs. On that level, Dumb and Dumber To succeeds. I found myself laughing out loud quite a few times as I found even some of the low-level humor funny. Most of the movie's success can be attributed to Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels, who have fantastic on-screen comedic chemistry together. The jokes that hit home are just them being goofy together, which in the 20 years since the first Dumb and Dumber, has not become old. In every comedy I see, my favourite thing is being able to sit in a theatre and laugh with a bunch of people who get the same joke as me. This applies for Dumb and Dumber To; while it isn't particularly "classy" or memorable, it is a fun time at the movies. I can't stress the big "if" enough... if you go to this movie, know what you're getting into. If you know this isn't your type of movie, don't bother. But if you're a fan of Jim Carrey, Jeff Daniels, Dumb and Dumber, or goofy, silly comedies, then it is worth checking out.
