I was super pumped to see Furious 7. After Fast Five, the F&F franchise has been incredible, with great thrills and over the top stunts. I love James Wan, so I was very excited to see this instalment. I was especially curious to see how they handled the sad passing of Paul Walker. Well, I am overjoyed to tell you that Furious 7 is a thrilling, fun and surprisingly emotional film that proves to be the best in the franchise!
THE GOOD:
+ The action is... glorious. The car chases are well filmed and edited, as are the fight scenes. Some stunts are so over the top that I was gleefully laughing and clenching my seat. There was one specific moment involving a plane that made me so happy. All of the action and stunts are entertaining and thrilling.
+ The acting, though not amazing, is convincing. You could really see a brotherhood and bond between the lead actors. You could feel the chemistry between them. The late Paul Walker gives one of his best performances in this film.
+ The pace is non-stop and super fast (get it? ) The two and a half hour runtime felt half as long.
+ The soundtrack, editing and cinematography were all perfect for this type of movie.
+ The story, though messy and all over the place, is enjoyable. It felt like an excuse for the amazing action sequences.
+ The sendoff to Paul Walker is beautiful, emotional and chilling. I really felt strong feelings by the time it ended.
THE BAD:
- Jason Statham as the bad guy is fine, but his character is clichéd and always shows up at the perfect moment.
- As stated, the plot is messy and convoluted. It felt like it was written quickly. I understand that they had to change a lot because of the death of Paul Walker, but it still felt choppy.
- The writing is cheesy and predictable. Obviously you shouldn't expect poetry, but there were some lines that made me cringe.
Overall, Furious 7 is an action-packed, fast paced, entertaining and surprisingly emotional time at the movies! It is a summer blockbuster you should see ASAP!
RATING: 9/10.
