Lately, when I've thought of a film I really love, I will say it deserves a 9 just because I know a movie can't be perfect. I could easily give Guardians of the Galaxy an 8, 9 or 10, because while it is far from a perfect movie, it is just so fun and entertaining that while watching it, you forget all the imperfections and just enjoy the ride. First of all, let me start off with how funny the movie is. The characters are all so quirky, off beat, and different from one another, that just their interactions with each other provide truly funny moments. Rocket Raccoon is particularly laugh-out-loud funny. While the Guardians themselves were the best part of the film, I also really enjoyed some of the nostalgic song choices that by the end of the movie didn't at all feel out of place. The film provided an entertaining story and impressive special effects. The character CGI and makeup are superb, and the set pieces and background effects are wonderful. The 3D is also actually very well utilized here, and adds to the overall movie experience, particularly during the action scenes. There are (only) a few negatives to mention. First off, the villain in the film is just not that great. While visually impressive (I imagine the sales of his action figures will be strong), his motives are not clear and he is very underdeveloped. He only serves as a plot device for the film to get from Point A to Point B. There are also a few scenes in particular where the movie is attempting to be funny, but the dialogue can come across as cliche. With a comedy film, it is hard to get every single joke to be a hit, and Guardians almost accomplish that, but not quite. Guardians of the Galaxy may be an imperfect movie, but the fact that I had so much fun watching it makes it hard for me to bump it down a level. It's fun, it's exciting, and a visual spectacle. While the story does wrap up nicely, therefore making the film feel complete, I am still eagerly anticipating the obvious sequel.

Your review is a 10 on its own - feel exactly the same way after seeing the movie last night, I laughed throughout the movie and adored the Rocket as well as all the characters.
