The Franco Zeffirelli production of Hamlet with Mel Gibson and Glenn Close is an irreverent look at Shakespeare's massive drama. As with anything Zeffirelli films, it becomes too sensationalist. Gibson, not a trained classical actor, does a creditable job as does Glenn Close who, however, is ridiculously young to be playing Hamlet's mother. Even with the cuts to the play, the film seems never-ending.
