Hugo

Kudos to Scorsese, the entire cast and all those unique contributors for this magical, fantasy-like tale which deservedly won five Oscars. It conveyed a spirited story filled with all the emotions entailed in human connections. What makes this movie unique is in part the mystery of the orphan boy secretly living in the walls of the Paris train station set to the backdrop of the 1920's. The setting is nostalgic, with beautiful visuals depicting the relationships between an interesting group of characters; all of who provide joy, sadness, humour, friendship, love, loss and redemption. The other amazing part of this story is the reality of a true story that is intertwined and mysteriously unfolds from the magic of one story to the magic of a silent film producer's story, a pioneer of his time. That too was an unexpected twist wrought with more emotion and magic. I cried of joy and sadness in this movie as it had a different tone from most pieces today and in comparison to Scorcese's other films. It was masterful in cinematography, a heartfelt, endearing story which weaves into other fascinating stories, and every set was beautifully illustrated. This movie was great for the whole family and hopefully there is a sequel to answer some questions which are not readily answered.
