Susanne Bier's Oscar winning film provides some food for thought regarding the prevalence of violence in the world. The movie invites the questions: Are men inherently violent? How do we deal with the problem? How do we teach our children to abhor violence? This is very earnest subject matter. But, the film seems like two movies in one with its shifting back and forth from Africa and Denmark and back again. Unfortunately, the movie turns soft towards the end. Is it likely that the angry young boy, Christian would be so easily forgiven? Notable movie but a bit of a disappointment for an Oscar winner.
