I enjoyed this picture because of Mark Wahlbergs endearing performance as Vince Papale and the nice camera work especially in the game sequences. That said, this picture has flaws in story and character. For instance, it glosses over any detail about how Papales life got so bad in the first place. Was Papale entirely a victim of circumstance or did he make selfish choices that contributed to his difficulties? And it seems that Papale is the only rookie in the Eagles training camp - for it appears he has absolutely no comradery with any of his teammates including fellow rookies who would feel as much an outsider as Papale. Yet it is these deficiencies that motivate you to root for Wahlberg all the more. It makes the obstacles Papale faced that much more daunting and the feat of becoming a special teams player on a poor football team that much more extraordinary than it probably was at the time.
