I didn't think Jack and the Beanstalk would make good source material for a movie. After enduring the torturous Snow White movies for my little kids, I was even more skeptical. One shouldn't underestimate the film-making prowess of Bryan Singer though. He's adapted the fairy tale for the big screen with brilliance, and I had a blast visiting a twist on one of my favourite stories from childhood. The first ten minutes are arguably unspectacular and you're worried the animation and special effects will be abysmal. But once the film picks up pace, things improve vastly, and the two hours fly by quick. It is a little too violent for very young kids, but it's also not at all graphic. If you're a young boy, you'll enjoy it tons. Actually, the ten year old in me, would like to give it a full blown 10, but the adult me holds him back. What I definitely won't mind though is watching this again with the kids in a few months.
