    Le Sel de la terre

Heavy-handed, philosophical portrait of a great photographer. The photos and anecdotes related within the film are undeniably powerful and Salgado has lived quite the full life. Unfortunately, his pessimism grated on my nerves. He seemed a tad oblivious to certain things, despite how wise the film painted him as. Like, I get that humanity is capable of horrible things, but dude, you made a career out of photographing said things. What would you have done without all this horror to photograph? The film doesn't address questions like this and as such is a bit navel-gaze-y with its subject. Wenders seems more concerned with the spiritual side of things rather than the objective. Still, those photos. Not to mention he and his wife basically birthed a goddamn forest. Crazy.
