Wow! There are so many aspects to this movie that are remarkable. The cinematography and set designs were magnificent. Both Anne Hathaway and Hugh Jackman gave stellar performances in all their songs. Aside from their singing voices, they added a new dimension that is missing on stage-Their acting. I am sure that Ms. Hathaway’s “I dreamed a dream” was done in one take and was profoundly powerful. There were a couple of poor choices in my view: Crowe cannot sing well, and Sacha Baron Cohen from the Borat or dictator movies cannot sing or act. For those who may have lived on another planet-this is a musical. It is the all-time top selling musical in history. So to not know this, or to not know the actual story line of love and hope…well stay at home. Samantha Barks as Eponine clearly had the best voice of anyone. What I liked best about this movie was that it took a “musical” and added the element of acting/passion to each person’s role. On some level it made it more real to me.
