What makes this movie special? Vanessa Redgrave's stunning performance, Franco Nero as her love interest both on and off-screen and the most romantic of settings, the cities and countryside of Tuscany. The inspirations from the traditional story of Romeo and Juliet especially the Shakespearean version are cleverly woven into the fabric of the film from the Juliet balcony, the city of Verona, costumes, hairstyles and of course, the love story. If you love Italy or true romance or excellent acting, you will enjoy this beautiful, traditional film. When presented with this exquisite story, Generation Me might choose to spend their money (or rather their parents' money) in some other cinema where their selfish values of instant gratification are better reflected.

Your harsh assessment of the younger generation says nothing about merits (or lack of ) of the movie. I'm nearly 60, spent my own money and didn't find a lot of value in this movie.
