I saw the "Road Warrior" back when thought it ground breaking, a classic.
The original is really near the same standard!
Thunderdrome, a bit too far, but OK and likely the swansong. Saw Tina Turner around then, her encore a blistering rendition of the title song, kinda gelled it, for me!
Now this, in 3D with Dolby Atmos, vast screen, just a slingin' it!
Fury Road is kind of 3 films chained together fueled by nitromethane, it's really a ride, something of a "tour d' force".
But... you know there's going to be a but, much of it is an unintelligible mess.
The first part, the audio is so self congratulatory you're drilled so much everything, you can't define much of anything!
Maybe there was a back story in the soup, but not revisiting the narrator is a mistake here.
The machines are pure sculpture, the costume and overall design is brilliant and knitting all the chases into something almost contiguous is a feat, if not a wonder.
The "acting" is pretty spare, robotoid even, so that when it isn't, which happens, you tend to discount it.
Charlize Theron is an accomplished actor, as is Tom Hardy and both were fine here. However the best performances are from Nicholas Hoult and the young ladies who provoke a quest.
So, it reforms toward fathomable, all while moving at a volocety that makes "Star Wars" seem like "Wagon Train"!
So a great film? Nah, it's a mess, but a real ride, and it gets a tin badge for that! Avoid the 3D, you'll be OK.
Unforgivably tho', the score is self indulgent rubbish.
