Definitely prefer this genre over the "comic book" derivations. Tim Burton has unique style in his presentations, and this is a stylish, visually effective journey. Comment that it's not really suited to younger children is accurate. This is weighty, some evil on the plate. Eva Green has remarkable presence on screen, a very attractive ability to work quirky aspects of character. Chris O'Dowd is another fine actor, effective in irony. The cast in general, hard to fault, although I felt some major actors pretty underutilized here. There have to be many fine character actors in need of work, that could've served as well. Felt this film a fine pastime, if not profound. Treading between Paddington Bear and the Harry Potter series, by resonance. Far better than the recent "Alice In Wonderland" attempt which I found aimless. Pretty specific audience appeal, for a supposed "general" rated release, but worthwhile.
