    My Sister Eileen

My Sister Eileen from 1955 with Betty Garrett, Janet Leigh and Jack Lemmon was such a smash hit in 1955 and seeing it in 2016, it doesn't take long to discover the reasons. The three principals are wonderful, Leigh and Garrett playing sisters who have just moved into New York's Greenwich village with its then INNOCENT neighbourhoods. The Village was never the homey sanctuary portrayed in the film, but we buy the infectious premise! Its almost a screwball comedy of sorts as one disaster piles upon another. It's very funny, but 'funny' also as it takes us back to a place and time that have disappeared as sex, drugs and violence slowly infiltrated the Village, a place unrecognizable from its 1950's era. Check out the Village today and you will understand why!
