Simply put, Secret of the Tomb is not as fun or memorable as the first Night at the Museum; however it is a giant leap forward in quality from the 2009 sequel "Battle of the Smithsonian". The movie is not as good as it could have been, but it is still mildly impressive considering it is a novelty based franchise where the novelty has already overstayed its welcome. My problem with the movie was the way the story unfolded. It is very fast paced (so that the kids don't get bored) making the movie feel incredibly short. And while that is great for people who might not have a long attention span, it made me wonder if this movie could have just been a one hour special on TV. As a film it could have been much better, but Night at the Museum: Secret of the Tomb is harmless, distracting and fun family entertainment. Kids will love it, as did the ones in my screening. There are a lot of funny scenes that had the kids roaring, as well as getting some laughs from the teenagers and adults. Something is undeniably appealing about the adventure and history aspect of this movie (and the franchise as a whole) along with the action and special effects that do look good on the big screen. It is also wonderful to see Robin Williams in one of his last performances, and a scene between him and Ben Stiller at the end of the movie is incredibly touching, igniting an emotional reaction from a lot of the (older) members in the audience. While Night At The Museum: Secret of the Tomb is not the best movie ever it is still a great option for families, and despite its problems, is fun to watch. The movie functions as a sendoff for an actor we have come to love for his character performances, and is also, hopefully, a close to a series that has run its course.
