I was super hyped to see Nightcrawler. I've heard nothing but amazing praise for the movie, I love Jake Gyllenhaal and I am really curious about the subject. Well, I'm happy to confirm to you that Nightcrawler is an AMAZING movie with some of the best acting I've seen all year!

The story follows Lou Bloom, as psychopath who begins filming crime-scenes to sell to TV-news stations. He begins to become good at his job, too good... I strongly enjoyed the plot of Nightcrawler. It is fairly unique and extremely interesting. There were a number of twists that I could not predict and the whole story seems to flow well. I really loved the ending too, which left me nearly speechless.

The acting in this film is absolutely astonishing. Jake Gyllenhaal gives the best performance I've seen by an actor all year, and needs to be nominated for the Academy Award. In fact, I hope he wins! He plays a psychopath very well while not overacting one bit. The rest of the supporting cast give top-notch performances and are all flawless. I loved the character of Lou Bloom. He was so strange and eerie, yet somehow relatable. Does that make me a psychopath? I don't know...

The editing and cinematography are so great, showcasing the streets of LA in a beautiful fashion. The lighting was pretty fantastic and the musical score worked perfectly. The writing is also excellent, with some dialogue scenes that were absolutely intriguing.

This movie isn't without it's minor problems, though. My biggest gripe is that the movie occasionally felt very slow. There were a couple of scenes that felt like they dragged on way longer than they should have, and became uninteresting. Also, there were a few characters that seemed too underdeveloped.

Overall, Nightcrawler is continuing 2014s streak of awesome movies! It is a well-written and interesting movie with the best acting I've seen all year. Even if the film is a little slow and uninteresting at times, I urge you to check it out!

    RATING: 8.75/10.

    Hi,

I write a lot of reviews on Cinema Clock and most times what I read is nothing but dribble, people's reviews often a load of crap, if you will pardon the word. Half the time I don't believe they know what they're viewing on screen. Something I stated in my last review was that today's techno crowd must turn off their brain when entering a cinéma. I honestly believe this! Which brings me to my point. I'm a professor at UofT who happened to catch your review of the film NIGHTCRAWLER. I was quite impressed by your writing for one so young as many University students are unable to write even a simple paragraph without some 20 errors. Evidently, you're doing s.t.right. If you don't mind a piece of advice (I used to write professionally on film for one of the Toronto papers as well as opera and ballet reviews.) The status of my work now prevents me from doing much of what I enjoyed enormously... This is essential but by no means a critique of you or your work. When tackling a review, whether film, theatre or any of the performing arts you must be very much on your toes NOT to reveal many intricate details that formulate a plot, especially revealing details that would spoil a film for someone reading your article. The trick of a great review is to talk all around a 'piece' with background information that will make the article truly exciting and alive. (e. g. background info of the actors, director, screen writer, what these persons previously accomplished, awards received, location work, art decoration cinematography, so many things.) It's not possible to have this sort of knowledge being so young. The trick is READING. I've been reading on the arts since a young teen. Fortunately, the facts somehow stay with me. Then one is always learning in life. Unfortunately, even professional critics reveal too much substance not called for, reason being, they're simply not creative enough to write a journalistic piece without getting bogged down in simple story lines. That is not criticism but useless summary one can read anywhere on line. I do believe you have a talent for writing so I encourage you to do so. Hope you don't mind, I'd like to relate an incident of a H. S. teacher who encouraged me to write after reading a short story required for class. He gave me a 10 out of 10 asking me to try my hand at poetry which I presently write in three languages. Trust me! This is not to boast on any past history but to state that this SOLE teacher started me on a writing path which endures to this day. Soon to turn 40, I must be ancient in your eyes. As a token of that wicked milestone, I will repeat myself, asking you to experiment with writing as you have the rudimentary tools. Writing, the whole process of creation is such a marvelous gift. If you think you have the goods, go for it! It's something you will love, something that will comfort you for the rest of your life. Not knowing if you are female or male, makes no difference. It's so rare to see age-appropriate, proper, good writing. If I correctly remember, you divided your review into paragraph form. Many your age have no concept of the importance of creating new paragraphs for new ideas to be expressed. Please forgive my big block of writing as it is what Cinema Clock usually prefers. My Best to you! Happy Holidays!

    P. S. I wrote this very quickly so please excuse if any errors are to be found.

    Respectfully, Peter.

I'm honestly pretty amazed that somebody not only read my review, but liked it! Especially someone with great knowledge, as yourself. I'll take your criticism into account. I did not try to reveal much of the plot, but I'll be more careful next time. Thank you so much for taking the time to write your comment. It means a lot to me. :D
