Non-Stop

Complete with an intriguing premise, solid acting, and suspense, Non-Stop is a good film, that goes beyond just being an action movie to being a really clever "whodunnit" mystery. The movie did a remarkable job of keeping the identity of the antagonist a secret, and conveys frequently that "it could be anyone." Honestly, I could not guess the bad guy's identity, and neither could my friend, which led to multiple whispered debates in the theatre. Liam Neeson is great in this movie, as is Julianne Moore. I would however, like to give credit to the work of the entire supporting cast. The tension created by the mix of innocence and guilt in each of these characters was able to keep each and every one of them on the list of suspects, but also made me question whether they really were the "bad guy". I really liked that this movie was set on a plane, which gave everything a claustrophobic feel, and also limited the options for the hero. However, I thought the last act of this movie was poor, and once the mystery element was gone, there was nothing left but a generic action movie. This wouldn't bother me, understanding that I don't mind generic action once in a while, but considering the first seventy-five minutes of Non-Stop was so well done, the last act felt like a major step down in quality. Overall, Non-Stop is a well done mystery thriller, but also a generic action movie. The acting is good, the movie is paced well, and the airplane setting enhances the story. If you're a fan of movies like Die Hard or Taken, you should check out Non-Stop. I suggest you see this movie with a group of friends, as you will enjoy competing with one another in trying to guess together who the antagonist is.
