Let me begin by saying this has to be one of the most shockingly irresponsible films ever released on the general public. It is certainly not the first film to wallow in the depths of high school party hysteria, yet I'm hard pressed to think of another film that takes the party quite this far. Project X scales new heights of mass-drinking, drug-taking, pervasive female nudity, cruelty to animals and midgets, not to mention property destruction. The plot is simple. Unpopular teen throws giant bash while parents are away and things get way out of hand. That's it. The film makes no effort to flush out any of its characters and the dialogue consists mostly of a rearranging of four letter obscenities. Perhaps most reprehensible, maybe even dangerous, is the film's central thesis that no matter how reckless, destructive, or criminal ones actions, all will be forgiven because the thought of their son being the king of the thousand person block-party is a source of parental pride. With that in mind, this is undoubtedly a film that will divide audiences. If you're over the age of 35 don't bother cause this movie isn't for you. It is for the legions of teenage and twenty-something boys who've all dreamed of throwing that legendary party and doing body shots of tequila with the school hottie. If you take the film on that level it is actually something of a success. The climatic party is truly a sight to see and the film also has two 13 year old bouncers that are literally worth the price of admission. All preaching aside, Project X is nothing more than the cinematic equivalent of a teenage boy's wet dream. It's full of boobs, booze, bongs, bad language, extacy, flamethrowers, loud music and angry dwarfs. I ask you, what more could anyone want out of a movie?
