    Religulous

Well ladies and gentlemen of the jury I finally got to see this movie and so I believe that, according to many of you who debated with me, I am now entitled to give a fair critique and I will with pleasure. First of all technically this movie was very poor. The sound kept going up and down and the jittery cinematography didn't help make this project stand up with the standards of today's good film making. Secondly, I understand that Bill Maher strongly feels a certain away about this topic and he has every right to come to his conclusions based on his premise that there is no proof. It was unfair of him though, to choose extreme examples of those who give religion a bad name and not go to those same religions and get level headed responses to some of his questions or at least show those peace loving people who have families who benefit greatly from their faiths. Those who are free from drug abuse and those who can attest that religion or God has helped them become better people or who have even been transformed from man's mediocre self to a place, let's say that is a tad more divine. Bill Maher is a very intelligent man and a very funny guy. I like his sense of humour but his approach on this subject is close minded and has not given himself a chance as an adult to seek the truth but instead rants about his dislike of church when he was a child. I think every child including myself wanted to get home on Sunday as fast as they could and put their jeans on and go out and play. BUT there comes a time when we grow up and should at least ponder at some point what life if all about and who we are. It is very important because perhaps we can learn something from spiritual teachers such as Jesus who were willing to die for the cause. And the truth of the matter is that we don't find God up in the sky like some of you THINK but instead find HIM in our very selves. That is why it is important to treat one another with love and respect because in essence when we do that we are loving God. Before we can get to that plateau though, we need to understand the Love that God has given to us first by giving us life and experiencing this incredible journey called life. So why doesn't everybody get it? Because there are so many distractions on this planet that they consume human beings and they lose themselves. For those who feel like they know what an orange tastes like before they even taste it, I would say TASTE AND SEE. Bill Maher did not make a well balanced film that may have showed the feelings of faith minded people who have found the truth but instead arrogantly went on and on about how right he is and how wrong those who believe are. Amen.

It is not a fair critique it is a sermon. Next time you are watching a film that you can only give 1/10 to, stop wasting your time - walk out & certainly don't invest all that energy writing your "critique". If it's that bad, it condemns itself. However, if it bothered you and you need to get something off your chest... well then!

A fair critique can only be fair because I stayed until the end. What I wrote I wrote and if I do say so myself it is quite sound. You just don't agree with it because you are in a different place spiritualy or not. And that's fine. Not everybody will. Many followed Jesus and many didn't. You have your right to choose whatever you want. And so do I.

If the movie offended you, then it did it's job. Your review was unfair and dishonest. The movie obviously struck a nerve, and that's a good thing.

I respect you for going to see it after all the fuss your first comment caused, and you wrote an informed review and gave your rating, (which, by the way, is exactly the purpose of this site for those of you disgusted by the fact that his rating differs from the average) I'm going this weekend, also with an open mind, though from a different end of the spectrum. I'll let you know...

"You must have the heart of a child to enter the Kingdom of Heaven." - JC :) So, to accept religion, you must be naive and blind to the reality around you? Well, if that's your thing... but try not to push it on others; it makes us sick.

The heart of a child? Does a child meet a gay person and hate? Does a child shoot guns at other kids who think Spongebob is better than Bob the Builder? There is no Kingdom of Heaven. When you die, you're gone forever. The only Heaven is the life we live. I hope you haven't wasted it in church.

You have the choice to believe what you want yet it is very important to keep it for yourself. Politics as got to be rational thinking and this is very seldom present in the minds of religious people in general. So when I see a politician believes in God like Harper, I do not vote for him. He does not change his mind, he does not analyse, he simply believes in actions even if it is not religion, and cannot tell the truth because the truth does not promote his beliefs.

What do you expect when you go see a movie called "religulous"? It seems like you would rather bitch and complain about a movie What a shame.

Even if a religion helps someone become a better person that doesn't mean what it says is correct, or true, merely that it's useful; but something else may be just as useful. Even if one agrees with you (as I do) that one should "ponder at some point what life if all about and who we are", that doesn't mean that we have to do it through religion; it's possible to approach these questions rationally, without religion. Perhaps, for some, religion has a nice experiential "taste", metaphorically (as per your orange example); but so does belief in Santa Claus, for some. If you like a religion because it "tastes" nice, then fine; that doesn't mean what it says is true.

Mankind made Jesus into a religion, I don't believe He viewed Himself as that, in fact He came to wipe out what was known as religion (the law of the old testament which was burdening its captives) "I have come to set the captives free"... I believe in Jesus because He is the truth, because when taken to heart His words are those of everlasting life and they have transformational qualities, not because He is deemed to be a religion. I thank you for your response though. At every level we need to keep evolving don't you think?

Not at all just a fair critique based on MY observation. Thanks for your response.

What you deem to be important is not at all part of our constitution. If I have found a great treasure and feel that others can benefit from it I will spread the word, just as you may in fact be leading people astray by your beliefs. I don't tell you not to speak what you think and you have no right to tell me what I should. And about Harper, give me a break! A real Christian leader wouldn't send anyone to war. It's not the Christian way. If you are happy believing in what you believe fine, but please don't tell anyone what they should and shouldn't keep to themselves. You sound like a facist when you do that. Vive Le Canada!

Who says anything about accepting religion? I accept the truth and to me Jesus is the truth. Mankind made Him into a religion. Being naive and blind is for those who accept the world and all of its false promises. On the contrary Christ lifts the veil from your eyes and you will SEE what is real. And yes it's "my thing" and if I believe that what I believe is going to be helpful to others who are blind I will offer the treasure I have found to them. I don't push anything on anybody. I can preach in silence all I have to do is be myself and not say a word about religion. But as I am doing now I will use words if necessary. And for you to say "it makes US sick"... how does ONE person get off on calling himself WE, like you are the spokesmen for everyone. Wake up... wake_up!

People have always wanted answers magicdude not just in 2008. I thank God I have the right one. It amazes me how you can assume what the "reflection of society in general" is. Open your eyes oh magic one.

You wrote that whole thing yourself? That is amazing! You truly represent faiths everywhere when you wright that. Everything I feel when I read comments from people who hate me for my faith is expressed by your words. I congratulate you! Thank you very much. You are very wise indeed.

You obviously want the last word. I have said all that I have to say. I am just as right as you think I am wrong. But let me close with this. In one review you put yourself in the 26-35 age bracket and in another you are 18-25. I am starting to wonder who it is that I am talking to here. You see, believing in God attempts to keep a person HONEST! I have seen comments in the 13-17 age bracket that reflect a more sound less angry response than yours. Why are you so upset because others have found the meaning of life in Jesus of Nazareth, A REAL PERSON who accomplished so much. Regardless of how you think HE STILL LOVES YOU and So DO I. Now please get on with your life.

Yes Magic Dude my God would love somebody unconditionally without meeting them, although having been the creator of the universe and everything in it He knows everyone very well, even you. And... I saw the movie so yes I do have a right to comment as I did and gave it a deservedly ONE.

"Bill Maher did not make a well balanced film that may have showed the feelings of faith minded people who have found the truth" - Have found their* truth if you will. Being old doesn't mean you understand the truth it just means you've had enough time to define it in your own terms.
