Nice to look at and very well acted but it was also very slow moving and the screenplay could have been much better. For example it would have been easy to add a bit more bio info, not only on Renoir but those in his entourage. This could have been accomplished in an unobtrusive way that would not have affected the story.

I agree. I wish Hollywood could do a bio epic without the side sensationalism. I guess they feel if the movie does not appeal to just about everyone it will not get financed and made.
