There is no question that Denzel Washington in pseudo sociopath mode is very entertaining. Very few actors can shift so comfortably from a pearly white smile to a ferocious gaze as he can and his antics, playing a best of the best rogue assassin, makes most of Safe House worth sitting through. The action scenes are also well choreographed in the jumpy "realistic" style that has become commonplace since Jason Bourne arrived on-screen. However, almost everything else in the film from the plot, to the dialogue, to Ryan Reynold's performance, are so unbelievably routine that the film ends up being nothing more than the average run of the mill actioneer, diverting but completely unremarkable. What Washington could have done with a better wing-man and some more intelligent material!

I thought Ryan Reynolds did a great job in the role of supporting actor. His character was pushed to the limits, and although the story line was quite routine, Reynolds really immersed himself in his character and delivered a moving performance.
