The movie was ok... clever and witty. I was put off by the rugged and rough portrayal of Holmes and the fact that he never said "elementary, my dear Watson", as he does traditionally. Whenever screen writers remove character traits or expressions from scripts like they've done with James Bond, it takes some fun out of it all for me. This movie was also a bit sensationalized in a slapstick Hollywood style which I didn't expect. I would have enjoyed a more realistic and plausible story.

Actually, if you read the Arthur Conan Doyle books, Holmes NEVER says that phrase... it was added later, along with the stuffiness and the bad wardrobe... all the fun was also removed from the character, which now finally resembles what the author had in mind!
That phrase was never said by Holmes in the books, perhaps it is being true to the books. I haven't seen it yet; I'm just seeing what other people are saying.
