This is a powerful film about the politics and war on international drug trafficking by U. S. and Mexican law enforcement. The movie effectively shows the extreme violence involved with these cartels and the impact on society. Canadian director Denis Villeneuve does a great job in showing the brutality of international drug trafficking along the U. S. and Mexican border. Special mention has to be given to the sound effects used which added to the force of the film. Kudos also for compelling performances by all the actors – especially Emily Blunt, Josh Brolin, and of course Benicio Del Toro. However, a major downside to the film is that storyline did appear stretched. Note also that this movie is not for the average viewer as there several scenes that are very graphic. As formidable as this picture was, I do believe this film had more potential.
