Snowpiercer can boast an AMAZING international cast and whacky, futuristic, evil, rich vs poor, post-apocalyptic, and 'the system done me wrong' plot, however, for me, all of that was overshadowed by the extreme violence. If I had any idea how violent it was (even though meant to be over the top) I never would have gone to see it. It is rated "Violent", but by my standards it is Extremely Violent! The performances by Tilda Swinton and John Hurt (back together again after Only Lovers Left Alive) were astounding as always, the rest of the cast were fair to middling with the exception of Kang-Ho Song and Ah-Sung Ko. If I was Octavia Spencer, Ewan Bremner or Jamie Bell I would be trying to find a way to make people forget this is on my resume. Violence is my personal film pet peeve, but I understand it is extremely entertaining for others. If you love watching axe wielding henchmen and gore in confined spaces for over two butt-numbing hours this film will definitely be the highlight of your summer!
