I'm normally a pretty tough critic.
This edition of the Bond monument isn't the best, best of the type, but it's a resolution piece.
There are some unresolved dots to connect, some major characters to bid a firm farewell to, and maybe a platform to establish for a new audience. It's a long film, but you won't mind.
Daniel Craig is very good, wry humour and the kinetic vendetta percolating along beneath the suave, but nicked up facade. Bond is about the long game, and the dirt in the scrum. He could do another, and be viable.
Chistoph Waltz is a little flat, never accused him of that before. Maybe he's tuning the job to Craig's simmer.
Ralph Fiennes did a credible job, as M. Naomi Harris is a good modern Moneypenny, but a little less fixated on Bond than some.
Andrew Scott's weasel like C was good too. Ben Whishaw is on the money as Q, nerdy, but enough backbone to have Bond's respect.
Lea Seadoux, attractively adequate, but hardly smouldering and a tick too young, really.
Monica Bellucci, just wondered why, really, character never goes anywhere.
Dave Bautista, very effective, as Mr. Hinx.
There are places where the film just rips, then long gaps and paying attention gets harder. Lot of missed opportunities in the script to really zing a signature line, that never happened.
The sound overall, was big, but not awfully good. I did not see the most elaborate version, but the audio was a C at best.
Visually, really good, but no signature one for the ages moment.
Worth seeing tho', if not Casino or Skyfall heights, overall.
