    Suite française

A deftly made period piece of WW II with Michelle Williams and a stolid, attractive Matthias Schoenaerts, who literally wowed me in one of his first films, BULLHEAD! He is exceptional in this film and should, by all accounts, soon be a world known name and celebrity. Everything about the film is handsome down to it's last detail from a period novel from the 40's or so, published not long ago. The film might be a bit of a reverie on the second world war, but that does not interfere with the damn situation at hand. It is not a film of the conflicts of war but more on the occupation of France with the Michelle Williams's character using her allure to none too great consequences. A word should be stated about Kristin Scott-Thomas who seems to be in every other film, playing some lady of quality in this small occupied town, a woman who would be the perfect advertisement on why to keep away from mothers-in-law. It's unfortunate this film found so little acceptance and respect because it really deserved better. Any film that even remotely deals with the human condition is automatically disqualified as a hit or moneymaker. Persons young and old just want to see the usual same junk over and over again, junk with not an ounce of relevancy! What a sign of our dopey, contemporary society!
