Sarandon was an interesting, flawed character in this film - much the more authentic through her portrayal. As the narrative progressed, however, there was minimal attempt to establish a necessary level of tension for a murder mystery in favour of establishing a moral process for a prophesorial fulfilment. Despite knowing early the antagonist, his style and intent, the narrative is unusual enough to desire some of the blanks to be filed in. The editing, however, then turned awful. Histrionic leaps, from Sutherland's rather stumbling, marble-mouthed explanation to his strange connection to the plot, to an even more strange and illogical abduction, presumably from a character relationship tension assumption that unfortunately did not exist, to a bewildering suicide. No, another opportunity wasted. By the conclusion the film had reduced itself to a confusing level of silly.
