The Cat's Meow

This is a picture about morality or the lack of it among 'Hollywood types' in the 1920's. I likened the mood of this film to that of 'The Great Gatsby'. The film nicely characterizes some of the 'famous' people of the era like William Randolph Hearst and Charlie Chaplin. Some of the other celebrity characters I may have only heard of by name or I didn't know them at all. This hampers the films impact because you come away from the picture not really caring about what may or may not have happened some seventy-five years ago, and I think you are supposed to care. Some great direction and camera work by Bogdanovich though.
