The Conjuring

I do not remember the last time, if ever, that I gave such a high rating to a horror movie. This was so creepy and scary that I had to promise my wife to not bring her ever again to a supernatural horror flick (monsters and aliens are okay, but demons and ghosts are too much) If you want to know what you're in for, it is a bit of a cross between Amityville and The Exorcist, and it remains very original in most respects (except for that bouncing ball, Changeling much? ) This scary movie does the only effective job I have seen yet of bringing in expert ghostbusters into the mix (this idea has been used less effectively in Insidious and maybe even Fourth Kind) The idea is to make it seem more real and you have someone to root for (instead of a defenceless family getting traumatized repeatedly) It very much works in this film and is key to making it a better movie than, say, The Grudge. I do not know why traditional scares work so effectively in this film but they do. When has creaking doors ever been this scary!? I was glad that they even have fun with it towards the end of the film. On paper, clapping hands and creaking doors shouldn't really be that scary, but here we are. But yeah, apart from the bouncing ball with the failed musical cue, I think this film was absolutely fantastic.
