I decided to see The Drop as a way to pay my respects to the late James Gandolfini and his final film performance. He was truly an acting giant and his work here as cousin Marv, an ex wise guy whose glory days are behind him is spot on. Tom Hardy is also very good as Bob, Marv's shy, reserved bar tending cousin. However, the narrative, about a drop bar that gets held up, is fairly run of the mill and the conclusion, while tense and matter of fact, just doesn't seem worth the trouble. Other than the great work from Hardy and Gandolfini, completely unremarkable and no different than a million others of its type.
