    The Equalizer

The plot depends upon the audience having a short memory. One other reviewer wrote that it was similar to Clint Eastwood's Unforgiven. I tend to agree, however, the connection is very subtle and had I not read the reviews beforehand I probably wouldn't have made that linkage during the movie or very quickly at any rate, although I would have eventually. It's easy to see the similarity afterwards: take the plot-line from the old west's Unforgiven, move the locale to Boston, throw in some Russian-made mafia baddies (are there any other kind? ) some corrupt Boston cops (are there any other kind? ) vs the good old CIA mean guy (is there any other kind? ) who has nothing better to live for but his hatred of corruption, sad memories of better times gone by, paint it up with some special effects, some Bruce Lee karate and a Home Depot look-a-like big box store brimming to the ceiling with tools that are just waiting on the shelves to be used as weapons for good measure and viola!. you look like you might have a winner... and it has fooled a lot of audiences. Wow, talk about the vice-versa of beating your weapons into plow-shares! Don't expect the movie to break any new ground tearing through the movie curtains looking for a new genre, this one has all been there, seen that, done that before. What is it about the Cold War era and those bad Ruskies that continue to haunt us? As Rodney King so famously quipped," Why can't we all just git along!"
