The F Word, otherwise known as What If, was a much very small that I almost missed. The trailers for this looked fairly amusing and the cast was pretty good. When I was invited to see this with a couple of friends, I couldn't refuse. Well, after seeing this movie, I could say that What If is one of the best romantic comedies in recent memory. The story follows Wallace (played by Daniel Radcliffe), a sweet man stuck in the friendzone with the love of his life, Chantry (played by Zoe Kazan) Now every guy and girl has been in a place called the "friendzone" at least once. In my opinion, movies have never captured the pain of what it's often like. What If is one of the only movies I've seen that perfectly captures the friendzone and its pains. The story is incredibly relatable for most people in our society because of some situations and dialogue that people often have. The story actually works extremely well, with some plot elements that I did not see coming. However, there are a couple of times where the movie falls into the clichéd rom-com zone and the movie doesn't take many risks. The cast worked perfectly for this movie. I didn't expect to say this, but I actually saw Daniel Radcliffe as Wallace and not Harry Potter. This shows hope for his career, as he could finally sway away from his beloved franchise. The rest of the cast do phenomenal jobs, especially Adam Driver as Wallace's hilarious best friend. The best part of this movie is the writing. The dialogue is often so funny that I was constantly laughing! During the more sad moments, the dialogue is brutally realistic and brings out more emotion in the actors. The dialogue is very quirky and fun, and I enjoyed hearing the characters talk more than anything else. The musical score suits the movie very well and the cinematography, though not groundbreaking, was a nice little touch. A cool artistic touch was added into the editing and I really enjoyed watching the way this movie went. One of my only problems with this movie was that it started feeling very slow near the end and I almost got quite bored. The ending was also very predictable and clichéd. Overall, What If/The F Word is a brilliantly funny romantic-comedy that proves to be one of the best in recent memory. Even though it is at times predictable and clichéd, it is very enjoyable and is a great time at the movies! RATING: 8.25/10.
