    The Grey

From the moment I saw the trailer I knew this would be my type of film. A band of grizzled, ex-con oil workers crash land on a mountain and have to defend themselves against a pack of vengeful wolves. Liam Neeson continues his career trajectory of playing all knowing, never unprepared bad asses, who deliver the kind of mouth watering one liners that only occur in movies like this. "Stare right back em" he bellows holding a torch and staring into a dark abyss lit only by the dozen or so pairs of wolf eyes staring back. Several people gasped in the theater during this and other moments of impending dread, a reoccurring theme seeing as how a lot of the film is played out waiting for the attacks, as opposed to the attacks themselves. Judging by some of the harsher reviews, this upset a lot of people who were expecting "Taken" with wolves. I myself really enjoyed this film. It had some believable characters and survival situations and one of the more realistic plane crashes to be put on film in a while. There is an abundance of so-so dialogue, most of it profane, plus some uneven acting, but the film is never slow and the action does deliver. As far as the wolves go, are you people actually complaining about realism? Get a life! Next you're gonna tell me Jaws sucks because great white sharks don't actually stalk people. It's a movie, either go with or go home. As someone whose seen thousands of supposedly "scary movies" and is hardly ever startled, this one got me more than once. That's a credit to director Joe Carnahan (Narc, Smoking Aces) and his creativity with the usual "its too quite something is going to jump out at you" moments. Final word on the ending which I'm sure will upset even more people than the ending of Inception, mostly because they don't pay attention! Just because you don't see it doesn't mean you don't know what's gonna happen. Think about where he is, that's all you need to know.
