Benedict Cumberbatch is excellent as famed mathematician Alan Turing who was employed by the British to crack the seemingly "uncrackable" German enigma code, thereby winning WW2 for the allies. What follows is a compelling and also at times, quite amusing, retelling of a momentous moment in history, where brilliant and dedicated men and women succeeded in doing the impossible. The fact that audiences already know the outcome does not lessen the film's impact one bit and in fact, actually enhances it, as viewers will be anxiously awaiting the inevitable "Eureka" moment with bated breath. Not just a solid rendering of an important historical story, but a fascinating insight into the mind of a man whose genius was responsible for ending the war almost 2 years early, thereby saving the lives of an estimated 14 million people.
