John Ford's 1935 masterful study of guilt and betrayal in IRA politics, all its desperate ramifications as one man, a non too clever drunk gets involved with British authorities without seriously thinking of the consequences. The Film is a must see for John Ford's first Oscar win as Best Director and the Gypo of Victor McLlaglen who took the Oscar in 1935 beating out Best Actor Nominees Charles Laughton, Clark Gable and Franhcot Tone all in contention for MUTINY ON THE BOUNTY. Dudley Nichols provided the Oscar Winning Screenplay which for 1935 was a true gem and the reliable Max Steiner was Oscar rewarded for a dramatic score that resonated and heightened themes from The Informer. This was to be Victor McLaglen finest hour, a remarkable performance that rings very true with all the conflicting emotions running through his body. A MUST MUST SEE FILM!!!
